After deplaning at San Juan International Airport, defendants Amado Fernandez Ventura and Milagros Cedeno were questioned by Customs agents and arrested for illegally transporting money, in violation of 31 U.S.C. § 5316. They filed a motion to suppress all inculpatory statements made in the absence of Miranda warnings, which was granted. The government appealed.
